Find Skills

Introduction

The Find Skills tool serves as the essential discovery layer for the open agent skills ecosystem. It acts as a specialized package manager, enabling developers to search for and integrate modular capabilities into their AI agents. Instead of building every workflow from scratch, you can use this skill to find pre-built tools for domains like React optimization, CI/CD, and documentation.

Key features of the Find Skills ecosystem include:

  • Seamless Discovery: Instantly search for tools based on domain keywords or specific tasks.
  • Automated Installation: Add new capabilities to your environment with a single command.
  • Ecosystem Integration: Access a vast registry of community-driven and official skills at skills.sh.
  • Lifecycle Management: Easily check for updates and maintain the health of your installed toolset.

Installation

The core functionality is powered by the Skills CLI (npx skills). You do not need to install a separate binary; you can invoke the manager directly using npx.

To verify your environment and check for existing skills, run:

npx skills check

To install a new skill found during discovery, use the add command:

npx skills add <package-name> -g -y

Note: The -g flag installs the skill globally for your user, and -y skips confirmation prompts for a faster setup.

Usage

This skill is designed to be highly contextual. It should be used whenever you need to extend your agent’s capabilities or solve a domain-specific problem that requires specialized tools.

Discovery Commands

You can search for skills interactively or by using specific keywords:

npx skills find [query]

Example Search Queries:

  • npx skills find react performance
  • npx skills find pr review
  • npx skills find changelog

Common Interaction Scenarios

When interacting with Claude, you can trigger this skill by asking questions such as:

  • “How do I make my Next.js app faster?”
  • “Is there a skill for managing Docker containers?”
  • “I need help with accessibility testing; are there any tools for that?”

Managing Your Skills

Once you have built a library of capabilities, use these commands to maintain them:

  • Update: Keep all your tools current with npx skills update.
  • Customization: If no skill exists for your specific need, you can initialize your own project using npx skills init.
CategoryTypical Keywords
Web Developmentreact, nextjs, typescript, tailwind
Testingplaywright, jest, e2e, unit-testing
DevOpsdeploy, kubernetes, docker, ci-cd
Code Qualityreview, lint, refactor, best-practices
Productivityworkflow, automation, git, docs

Pro Tip: When searching, use specific technical terms for better results. If “deploy” returns too many results, try “vercel deployment” or “aws lambda” to narrow down the ecosystem matches.
